Ice

My foot is still a bit swollen. I'm not sure what to think. Should I just take several days off from running? After about 25 miles total on Saturday and Sunday I've gone two days without running. I also bought an ice pack today at the drug store. It's in the freezer now. Tomorrow looks like a busy day, but I'll probably squeeze in a couple of miles of good running.

Swollen!? Ouch, man! Take a few days off. It'll be okay. I think as runners, we get too easily addicted and don't focus on healing. Someone said last night, gee, I think long-distance runners are not as healthy in the long run...no pun intended. Offended at first, I reflected on the comment. Truth be told, I have had stress fractures and run through them and have now come to find that running smart, resting, RICEing, and crosstraining are SO CRUCIAL to success. Naproxen, ice and proper stretching and rest will be huge for you. Remembering what you once told me....Run Smart!

It's not that bad. It's just the swelling has never gone down and I'm not sure why it started in the first place.

But it is getting better. Perhaps I won't even need the ice, but I figured, it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

Maybe when I go home from work today, I'll ice my ankle for 10 minutes or so.
